VIBROACOUSTIC THERAPY
WHAT IS VIBROACOUSTIC THERAPY?
VibroAcoustic Therapy uses low-frequency vibration delivered through the body to encourage parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) nervous system activity.
Sound and vibration travel efficiently through the body because our tissues are largely composed of water. Low-frequency vibrations can be felt not only at the surface, but throughout the body, supporting a whole-body settling response. Many people experience this as a sense of soft internal movement, warmth, or a gentle rhythmic presence that allows the body to let go more fully.
At Studio A, we use a specialized massage table with embedded transducers from inHarmony. The vibration is delivered concurrently with your massage, so it does not add additional time to your session. For this offering, we use vibration only (no music or sound played through speakers).

A SCIENCE-INFORMED ENHANCEMENT TO YOUR MASSAGE EXPERIENCE
VibroAcoustic Therapy (VAT) is an optional add-on to massage sessions at Studio A, designed to support deep relaxation, nervous system regulation, and physical ease during your session.
Over several months in 2025, we integrated VAT into massage sessions with more than 60 clients, carefully observing both in-session experiences and post-session feedback. Seventy-six percent (76%) of clients reported a positive response, describing a deeper sense of calm, grounding, and/or relief from pain and muscular tension.
Based on this feedback and the growing body of research behind vibroacoustic interventions, we now offer VAT as an enhancement for clients who are curious about supporting their body’s natural capacity for relaxation and regulation.
HOW VIBROACOUSTIC THERAPY SUPPORTS THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
Low-frequency vibration has been shown in research and clinical settings to influence the autonomic nervous system, particularly by supporting parasympathetic activation. This state is associated with:
-
Reduced stress hormones
-
Improved muscle tone and circulation
-
Increased body awareness
-
A greater capacity for rest and recovery
By pairing VAT with hands-on massage, the body is given consistent, rhythmic sensory input while receiving therapeutic touch. Many clients report that this combination helps them settle more quickly and remain in a relaxed state more easily throughout the session.
HOW VAT IS OFFERED AT STUDIO A

-
Duration: 22 minutes
-
Integration: Occurs during your massage session (no additional session time)
-
Cost: $15 add-on
VAT is designed to complement, not override, the hands-on work you are receiving. Intensity levels are kept gentle and can be adjusted or discontinued at any time based on your comfort.

OBSERVED BENEFITS FROM RESEARCH & CLIENT FEEDBACK
Based on client reports from our in-house trial period, commonly noted benefits included:
-
A deeper sense of relaxation and calm
-
Feeling more grounded and present in the body
-
Relief from low back discomfort and other muscular tension
-
Easier “dropping in” to the massage experience
-
Improved sense of ease following the session
Some clients also noticed ongoing effects later in the day or evening, such as improved sleep quality or a sustained sense of physical ease.

VibroAcoustic Therapy is not a medical treatment and does not cure disease, but is a non-invasive, drug-free modality that can be used safely alongside massage therapy for many individuals. Beyond the benefits we have witnessed in-house, research and wider clinical use also suggest it contributes to a reduction of stress and anxiety, improved relaxation and sleep quality (especially if utilized within 3 hours before sleep), relief from muscle tension and discomfort, and enhanced mood and emotional balance. See inHarmony’s comprehensive guide to learn more.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
As with any sensory-based therapy, individual experiences can vary. Some people may experience temporary sensations such as lightheadedness or emotional release during or after a session. We encourage open communication with your therapist so the experience can be adjusted as needed.
