THE TEAM
CALLIE WILLOUGHBY, LMT
Trauma-Informed Massage Therapist
I am a 2024 graduate of The Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy (CRSMT), an accelerated study-abroad program, where I received exceptional education and hands-on experience in both Western and Eastern massage modalities.
Massage therapy has always been a passion of mine, but it was not until 2023 when I was in between jobs, that I took the leap to pursue it as a career. I was born and raised in Clinton, IA, and received my B.A. from Taylor University. After working with youth in Ohio for five years, I went back to school for a credential in Mental Health Counseling from Huntington University.
This prepared me for my role as a houseparent at Compass Rose Academy, a therapeutic, residential, treatment center for teen girls with mental health concerns. It was here that I learned so much about the importance of being trauma-informed, and how trauma can impact the whole person: mentally, relationally, spiritually and physically. I invested in some of my own deeper work while on staff with Compass Rose, and I feel that this has prepared and equipped me to step into this role at Studio A.

When I left Compass Rose in 2022, I was more exhausted and burned out than I realized. The following six months I held the intentional theme to “rest and explore”, which led to a deeper exploration of who I am, what I want, and how I can use my gifts to benefit others. I took a giant step outside my comfort zone by enrolling as a massage therapy student at Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy (CRSMT), and am so grateful I did! I am amazed at how the body is all interconnected and how it is truly designed to heal itself. I am honored to work as a massage therapist and as someone who holds space for and facilitates healing to happen.
While I am new to the field, I am excited to continue to learn and grow under the mentorship of Allie at Studio A. In February 2025, I completed the Polyvagal Certificate Course, a 35 hour training on safety, connection and the human experience. This equipped me with a better understanding of Dr. Porges' Polyvagal Theory (which explains how the autonomic nervous system, particularly the Vagus nerve, regulates our responses to perceived safety and danger, influencing our behavior and social engagement). This knowledge directly influences how I interact with each of my clients in a trauma-informed way, helping them come out of a fight, flight or freeze response.
